Hi Quincy.
We have,
-7(4-2x) = -140
In order to solve for x, we need to isolate the x.
We do this by moving the other terms and factors to the other side of the equation. So "undo" a multiplication, we divide. To undo an addition, we subtract. The inverse it true, too.
So, the first thing we do is divide by -7. This leaves
4-2x = 20
Now move the constant, 4 to the right side of the equation by subtracting it
-2x = 16
Lastly, divide by -2, and
x = -8
