Ashley,  parallel lines have the same slope.  If the intercept is (0,5), then the equation is y=2x+5.  When given the intercept, just plug in the y value in for b in the equation y=mx+b.  If you are just given a point, plug in the y value for y and the x value for x and solve for b.  5 = 2(0) + b......5 = b....y = 2x+5 is your answer.  Cynthia

The slope-intercept form is y = mx + b, where m is the slope

and b is the y intercept. You also need to know that all parallel lines

the same slope.

 

The given line: y = 2x - 3, is in slope intercept form, so we know that its

slope = 2. And from the given point (0, 5), we know that b = 5.

 

Y = 2x + 5       Done!
