A number is twice another number the sum of the two numbers is 60 find the numbers

Let the two numbers be x and y

 

Let x =2y

 

And

 

x+y=60

 

We can now solve by substituting for x in equation 2

 

2y+y=60

 

3y=60

 

y=20

 

And

 

x =2*20= 40
