First term
Outer term
Inner term
Last term
The trinomial is a polynomial that consists of exactly three terms. It is commonly the product of two binomial factors.
When you multiply the first terms of the binomials together, you get the trinomial's first term.
When you multiply the outer terms and multiply the inner terms (both products have like terms), add their products together, you get the trinomial's second and middle term.
When you multiply the last terms, you get the trinomial's third and last term.
In the end, FOIL gets you the trinomial.
