Belinda, here's a simple trick to help you with a problem like this.
If the sum of 3 consecutive integers is 564, then the middle integer is the mean of the 3 integers.
564/3=188
if 188 is the middle integer then 188+1=189 is the greatest and 188-1=187 is the smallest.
187, 188, 189 are the integers
If you need algebraic work then do the following:
x+(x+1)+(x+2)=564
3x+3=564
3=564-3
3x=561
x=561/3
x=187, x+1=188, and x+2=189
your other problem...
three consecutive even integers add up to 612
x+(x+2)+(x+4)=612
3x+6=612
3x=606
x=202, x+2=204, and x+4=206
using simple arithmetic...
612/3=204, the middle integer, 204+2=206 and 204-2=202
202, 204, and 206 again
