(7y+3)+(3y-5)=(9y+7)

10y-2=9y+7

10y-9y=7+2

y=9

GH=7*9+3=66

HI=3*9-5=22

GI=9*9+7=88

Assuming that the point G, H, and I are collinear, G and I are the end points and H is somewhere between them.

Draw a picture.

GH + HI = GI substitute

7y + 3 + 3y - 5 = 9y + 7 combine like terms

10y - 2 = 9y + 7 subtract 9y from both sides

y - 2 = 7 add 2 to both sides

y = 9

GH = 7y + 3

GH = 63 + 3

GH = 66

HI = 3y - 5

HI = 27 - 5

HI = 22

GI = 9y + 7

GI = 81 + 7

GI = 88

Check

GH + HI = GI

66 + 22 = 88

GH + HI = GI substitute
