how would Joseph McCarthy fit into society today?

I am asking how U.S Senator Joseph McCarthy would fit into society now.

Kris P.

Katie's comments are mere political ideology that do little to answer the question, since she only posits negative modern constructs, then works backward to lambaste McCarthy, ignoring that even Bobby Kennedy was an attorney for the committees handling those complex sociopolitical matters.

Only a pro-Communist can so absurdly dismiss McCarthy as merely a zealot, as if the Army-McCarthy hearings were some xenophobic witch hunt, rather than an effort to root out spies from The Soviet Union and other Communist and Socialist foreign nations, as well as US citizens aligned with such nations intent on toppling the US!

Katie's failed to do anything but advance revisionist opinions as if intellecutal analysis, enlightening nothing but one's ability to recognize the paucity of her intellect and the audacity of her absurdities ...

The Army-McCarthy Hearings were always public, not held in secret and, as you claim, later "made public"!

Hello Kris P.,
Firstly, I would like to point out the fact that this is an answer board to help students with their homework, and not for you to question the intellect of other tutors.  This is extremely unprofessional and unhelpful to the students trying to get help.

Secondly, this was an opinion piece for the students to see how the prominent figures from out nation's past would fit into society today.  All of the above opinions that you state are mine were developed by the student with careful thought.  It is my job as a tutor to provide the information to help guide a student through the assignments, not force my own opinion on them as you are stating above.  The above statements are your opinion and you are entitled to them, but I would like to know how they would help a student that completed this assignment over 2 months ago.

Lastly, please don't try to start arguments with other tutors on the answer boards.  If you have a problem with someone else's intellectual abilities, then you should contact them separately so that you don't clutter up their answers with your ranting.  Thank you.

I tried to do no such thing!

Obviously, you are a poor example of how to accept criticism ...

... and convinced yours is the only right wat.

No matter when a deadline for a paper may have passed, there is no expiration date on one's duty to learn and discern, seek and speak the truth!

My kids are in their 30's, and as a professional educator, I'm well aware of the tripe taught in public and private schools alike.

Maybe it's time for you to embrace the pleasures on the "constant sifting and winnowing" alone by which the truth might be and usually is found, rather than the finger pointing and name calling folks like you do when someone dares to correct them! Your rant reads like Caiaphas, the high priests and Pharisees attacking a truth telling disciple.

If you don't like being "teacher conferenced" for your conduct, get out of teaching or dstart dealing with substance, not ideology driven pablum!

All best wishes!

Ms. Katie, thank you so much for answering my question. It really helped me how people would more likely see him today. My thought to this is that Joseph McCarthy would be seen as a horrible man who used his position in the government to attack innocent people for his own self-benefit.
If you could give me any feedback towards my thought of how he would fit into society it would be much appreciated, thank you so much for taking the time to look at my question.

I'm always happy to help when I can Gabriel :)

I agree with your thoughts, but you also have to look at how he was viewed at that time to see how he would be viewed today.  Most of the people that worked with McCarthy saw him as a great patriot and politician, fighting for his country in the best way he knew how, by exposing the enemy of the time (Communists).  It was only after the Red Scare was over that we saw what he was truly doing.  So you have to ask yourself what the situation would be today.  Would we see someone who was trying to protect his country as a patriot, or someone who was using the systems and feeding on people's fear to gain for himself?  What do you think?

Thanks again for answering my question Ms.Katie, and I think he would be viewed as someone who was using the systems and feeding on people's fear to gain for himself, i think thats how society would view him today, i think everyone viewed him like that as soon as the army-McCarthy hearings was made public. Though if we were talking about how society would view him back then,  he would have been seen as a great politician and patriot.
Yet again thank you again for taking the time to look and answer my question. It means a lot Ms. Katie.
