Well, Reane - you did not give an example of simplifiying that troubles you.... so I willl give you a couple:
1. a lot of HS simplifying is with quadratics, template ax^2 + bx + c = (ax + d)*(x + e) OK?
thi will work if you can make d*e = c and d + a*e = b, the coefficinet of the the linear x term = hey, it may require a complicated quadratic solution, but Most of the Time it is possible to figure it out; e.g.
x^2 - 14x + 24 = (x + d)*(x + e) where d*e = 24 and d+e = -14
well what two numbers add up to 14 and have a product of 24?
YES! 12 and 2, but both have to negative to yield the negative 14
so, the simplification is (x - 12) *( x - 2);
not bad, right?
