I'm not an expert, but I do know Nixon quickly became an enemy of the press in general, first blaming them for not understanding him and/or being biased, and the relationship only got worse.  They were openly antagonistic long before Nixon quit.

 

There's probably an additional answer in the Anti-War movement.  It started under Johnson, but hit its peak under Nixon, who finally pulled us out of Vietnam for good, leaving our South Vietnamese allies to fall to the North.
