There are many reasons why settlers moved to America. One being that when Queen Elizabeth the first established the Church of England. Many people were not happy about this and sough religious freedom elsewhere in places like Holland and the new world, now known as America. 

Another reason for wanting to settle in America was the promise of gold. In 1606, King James the first authorized the Virginia Company to set sail for the new world after the Virginia Company promised gold to the King. The other reason for their journey was to find a sea passage from the new world to Asia.
