Average movie prices in the United States are in general lower than in other countries it would cost 80.52 to buy three tickets in Japan and 2 tickets in Switzerland. three tickets in Switzerland and 2 tickets in Japan would cost 76.43 How much does an average movie ticket cost in each of these countries?

Let S = cost in Switzerland  

 

3*J + 2*S = 80.52

2*J + 3*S = 76.43  

 

Multiply equation 1 by (-2) and equation 2 by 3 and then add them together  

 

-6*J - 4*S = -161.04

 6*J + 9*S = 229.29

 

0*J + 5*S = 68.25

S = 13.65

 

Plug this value into the 1st equation and solve for J 

 

3*J + 2*(13.65) = 80.52 

3*J + 27.30 = 80.52

3*J = 53.22

J = 17.74  

 

So a ticket costs 17.74 in Japan and 13.65 in Switzerland 

 

Check:  3*17.74 + 2*13.65 = 53.22 + 27.30 = 80.52

            2*17.74 + 3*13.65 = 35.48 + 40.95 = 76.43
