Good Morning.
I hold about a dozen CompTIA certifications and worked professionally teaching technical content like CompTIA in corporate environments. A+ is broken into two tests that are graded on a bell curve. It's a great certification that can help land entry level IT jobs or similar where you use your hands on PC's. It doesn't look bad on other applications either like helpdesk where understanding the physical can be helpful.
As far as being prepared, it's often taught as a single 3 month college course. Studying on your own you can also be prepared within 3 months typically I would say, if you study a few times per week for most. If you can't manage that, and don't have past experience, at maximum 6 months should be enough time for most. If you have past experience or study many hours per day, being ready within 1 month is a possibility.
All that being said, there is plenty of good study material out there. I don't know if I can say the exact names here so I won't, but the big names (people not companies) you find when you search for A+ study material are all exceptional for preparation. Companies are hit or miss, with the obvious one being the official study material through CompTIA being in my opinion the best but also quite pricey. Those names I mention above you can get their material to study for under $100 and its nearly as good. Other options exist also.
If you are good at self study that should be all you need. If you want, look for study groups related to those names on Discord and you will find great communities that have lots of resources and can let you know if you are ready or not. If you really need direction or guidance, a personal tutor fits in place. If you have no idea where to start and can't figure it out on your own, or need that structured guidance, a tutor can be of great help. Don't forget when buying your voucher to take advantage of things like the CompTIA academic store (google it) where you can get the test vouchers for 50% off roughly if you are a student.
Have a great day and good luck!
