The NASW code of ethics speaks directly to research. Multiple points are made by the code of ethics. Some of the major points include:
Informed consent – making sure that the participants are capable of understanding the research they are a part of and that they know that they can discontinue this research at any time.
Conflict of interest – these conflicts should be avoided. For example, if you know someone in a different space participating in your study.
Confidentiality – no information we collect should be identifiable to those outside of the research (of course, depending on what type of study it is),. Information is not to be shared unless there is an explicit and proper consent that authorizes disclosure of information.
Limiting harm - protecting participants from any physical or mental distress.
Technology – this is added to ensure that those participating in research know how to use the technology involved appropriately and offer alternatives. Suppose concerns are not something that can be addressed.
