3. Field is a single piece of data or information about a subject or event, listed in column of a table.
4. Record is a collection of related fields that describe a single entity in a row of a table.
5. File is a collection of related records, often stored as a table in a database.
6. Database is collections of files or tables organized and managed as a single unit.

Data hierarchy comprises bits, bytes, fields, records, files and databases.

Bits, the smallest piece of information, are represented by either 0 (off) or a 1 (on).

Bits can be grouped to form a byte. 1 byte = 8 bits. A byte represents one character, number or a symbol, while field, records and files essentially form a database, which is where all data is stored.
