I assume you're referring to the "Chat" feature available on various websites. Most organization's offer the chat feature to help enable quick & easy customer service. For example, retail stores has chat functionality to help their customers with any issues such as with product, billing, etc. There are again virtual chat assistants and actual human handled chat features. There is a difference between the two but their job is to help customers resolve their high level questions or concerns in a easy & quicker way.
