Hey! This is a confusing question, and a rather long one, but I would be very grateful if you could answer it for me. Before I start, I just need to clarify 3 things about this question. I only need your opinion on this. There is no right or wrong answer. I don’t need this answer immediately, so feel free to take your time! Alright, let’s start! Okay, so a week ago, my sister ran up to me jumping up and down hysterically. She told me that she had found a bird’s nest under our deck. I decided to check it out. Sure enough, there was a bird sitting on a nest on a thick ledge under our deck. The ledge was so thick that it could hold the nest comfortably without any real risk of the nest falling down. I shooed the bird away, and decided at first to remove the nest from the house and just throw it away. As I took the nest, I saw 1 tiny little egg there. I felt pity for the bird and put the nest back, since it was having babies. Later, my mom discovered it and told me to take it away because she thought snakes would come. I felt really bad but I couldn’t say anything, she was my mom after all. I decided to put the nest in a small tree for birds to take care of. However, there was significant damage to the nest when I wedged the nest firmly into the space between two branches, so it wouldn’t move. The tree was barely 5 ½ feet tall, but it would be a safe spot, or so I thought. Again, a few days passed, and there was a huge storm. The wind was blowing at 50 miles an hour, and rain pattered our window relentlessly. I looked out my window and my jaw dropped as I saw the same short, flimsy tree I put the nest in, almost bending into the ground because of the wind. With a shock I realized that the eggs would die if they stayed in the storm any longer. I ran into the rain and saved the nest, and put it back under our deck, on the same ledge. I even convinced my mom to keep the nest. A day later, I checked on the nest two times. The first time I checked on it, I was surprised to find two eggs in the nest. It seems the bird laid another egg while I was gone. Sadly, the second time I checked on the nest, I found the nest laying on the ground, with both eggs broken. I couldn’t believe such a thick ledge could ever let the nest drop. If you broke raw eggs, all the liquid yolk and yellow slimy stuff would come out. However, there was no yellow yolk in the eggs. Also, keep in mind that hatchlings tend to stay in the nest for 2-3 weeks before leaving and learning to fly. What do you think happened?? Did the eggs simply fall down?? Were they eaten by a predator such as a snake? Did the mama bird carry the hatched birds away in her beak and accidentally knock down the nest in the process? Or was it a completely different reason altogether?
