EDIT: I mixed up x and y---fixed.
consider the simplest equation: y = x. For a horizontal stretch of 2X, you could write:
y = x/2
OR
2y = x
Suppose then an offset a is applied to x. You could then write 2y = x - a, which would be equivalent to:
y = (x - a)/2
As long as you are able to put the equation in the form y - b = f(x - a), then a horizontal stretch is always done by multiplying the left side---or dividing the right side--by the scale factor.

that does not seem right to me---what is wrong with the logic in what i posted? I'm going to plot the function to check..... AND--fix the error in my answer!!11/21/19
