If you are exposed to a communicable disease, the first thing to do is look at your risk factors for that disease. For example, with measles, you should look at your susceptibility (i.e. vaccination status). If you are susceptible to measles, then you could be vaccinated within 72 hours or be given immunoglobulin within 6 days of exposure. If you are not susceptible, you can symptom watch once the minimal incubation period is over.
