I have used both Revit and 3DS Max. I feel they both have their uses, but if I was trying to make an animation I would want to use 3DS Max. Now the render engines are supposed to be the same in both but as I understand it 3DS Max is more powerful. If I wanted to model something then Revit will always be my choice then I might export out to 3DS Max if I wasnt happy with the controls inside of Revits Render. I know that in previous firms I have worked in that a lot of the rendering that is done gets done with programs like an add-in to Revit called Enscape or Lumion.
