A rock concert brought in $432,500 on the sale of 9,500 tickets. If the tickets sold for $35 and $55 each, how many of each type of ticket were sold?

Let x = number of $35 tickets

Then, 9500 - x = number of $55 tickets

 

Value of first type of ticket + value of other type of ticket = 432500

 

value = (price per ticket) (number of tickets)

 

So, 35x + 55(9500 - x) = 432,500

     35x + 522,500 - 55x = 432,500

                            -20x = -90,000

                                 x = 4500

 

ANSWER:  4500 $35 tickets were sold and 5000 $55                        tickets were sold
