Lets say you are in the Finder app, and you want to select multiple files. Click the first file you want, then hold SHIFT and click the last file you want. In addition to the files you clicked to select, all files in-between them will also be selected.
You can also select specific files in Finder by selecting one file, and then holding COMMAND while clicking the other desired files.
In addition, you can click in the empty area of Finder, below all the files found within a folder, etc., and drag across the files you want; this is helpful to select a group of files at one time.
Finally, the shortcut COMMAND A will also select all files in a folder within Finder.
