How do I backup my entire Mac to an external hard drive?

Randy H.

I recommend a disk-cloning utility called SuperDuper. Install the software and it'll walk you through the process step by step. I use it every couple of weeks to back up the system drive in my MacMini, and every month or so to back up my work storage archive drive (I run two drives in my MacMini, using a DiskDoubler bracket from OWC computing). SuperDuper is available for free, but the paid version also lets you schedule and automate backups. After you set it up — again, it'll walk you through it step by step — it'll work in the background and you'll never have to deal with it again. Unless, of course, something bad happens. Then you'll be GLAD that you can deal with it.
