Does Time Machine do incremental backups?

I use Time Machine via an external hard drive each week to back up my files. It does save the previous backups until the drive is full, and then it deletes backups as needed to gain more room. Having access to previous backups was especially helpful to me at one point. It also backs up on its own with a connected device or I believe the computer itself if an external device is not being used. Hope this helps!
