Pair an Apple Remote
- Hold the remote close to the computer (3 to 4 inches away) and point the remote at the front of the computer.
- Pair the Apple Remote by doing one of the following:
- Apple Remote with seven buttons: Press and hold both the Right and Menu buttons on the remote until the paired-remote icon appears on the screen of your computer (about 5 seconds).
- Apple Remote with six buttons: Press and hold both the Next and Menu buttons on the remote until the paired-remote icon appears on the screen of your computer (about 5 seconds).
Unpair an Apple Remote
- On your Mac, choose Apple menu
> System Preferences, click Security & Privacy, then click General.
- Click the lock icon
to unlock it, then enter an administrator name and password.
- Click Advanced.
- In the window that appears, click Unpair.
If your computer is not paired with a remote, the computer will take commands from any remote within range (up to 30 feet), even if the remote is paired with another computer.
Prevent your computer from being controlled by any remote
- On your Mac, choose Apple menu
> System Preferences, click Security & Privacy, then click General.
- Click the lock icon
to unlock it, then enter an administrator name and password.
- Click Advanced.
- In the window that appears, select “Disable remote control infrared receiver.”
