Epidemiologists who work with vaccine-preventable disease are trying to prevent the spread of these disease (like measles, influenza, and chicken pox) and encourage preventative measures (i.e. vaccines) when appropriate (i.e. correct age, not immunocompromised). These epidemiologists may research the barriers to vaccination in people who are eligible but not vaccinated. They may be involved in outbreak investigations where they work with others to vaccinate and monitor exposed individuals.
