Professional ASL Interpreter & Educator - Bridging Communication
Back when I was learning ASL, I remember the excitement I felt that I was able to communicate to a larger group of people and still do of course. How exciting it is to meet new people and communicate in a new language! Your world just gets bigger and more richer and you don't have to travel to other countries to get immersed in the language either. Also, the other fun stuff is to be able to communicate with your mouth full, lol! and you can communicate to someone from across the room!
More importantly, is that I love the closeness that the deaf community has with each other and I feel privileged to be part of that. The language is beautiful as you can get creative with it through poetry and song. Sometimes I feel I can express myself better in ASL because it is more visual. I guess I don't have just one favorite thing because ASL comes as a package: Language, Culture & People. Each of these things are deeply rooted in a collectivist environment that is educational, complex, rich and beautiful. If anything, I hope this just motivates you to learn ASL as you too will find the beauty in this 'package'.
