1) Baseboard molding is a usually wooden board covering the lowest part of an interior wall. Its purpose is to cover the joint between the wall surface and the floor. Therefore, it lines the perimeter of a room.
2) If a room is 9 feet by 12 feet, the perimeter of the room will be the total length of the four walls of the room:
Perimeter: 9+9+12+12= 42 feet
3) If the total perimeter of the room is 42 feet, then 42 linear feet of baseboard molding will be needed to a trim this room.
