The conditions to make the mean value theroem hold true are as follows:
If a function f is continuous on the closed interval [a, b], where a < b, and differentiable on the open interval (a, b), then there exists a point c in (a, b) such that the mean value therorem is true.
No condition that f(a) and f(b) have to be equal.
