Parallel lines have the same slope. What is the slope of the line y = -x-1? (Remember, slope is m in y = mx+b).
Once you have your slope, plug it in for m in the equation y = mx+b. Then, using the point (-3, -5), plug in the corresponding x and y values into the same equation that you plugged in m for, and solve for your y-intercept (b).
Then, rewrite your answer, subbing in for m and b.
y = -1x + b => -5 = -1(-3) + b = > b = ?
