HCPCS "J" codes are not used in the billing, if you are not charging the patient for the drug. Some patients bring their own. For example, a patient who takes Vitamin B on a regular basis, but cannot give themselves the injection, will often bring their prescription to the physician's office. In this case, the physician cannot and should not charge the "J" code because the injection medication was supplied by the patient.
