Dialectical Behavioral Therapy was developed by Marsha Linehan originally for Borderline Personality Disorder. DBT is a manualized based treatment focused on the here and now, similarly to a related therapy called Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. DBT has 4 modules of skills: 1. mindfulness, 2. emotion regulation, 3. distress tolerance, 4 interpersonal effectiveness. Research has now shown that DBT is effective for a wide range of emotional and behavioral disorders and can be especially helpful for people who struggle with reactivity, impulsivity, or difficulty controlling their emotions.
