How helpful is advanced maths such as calculus for starting a business

It depends on the type of business you want to start. For most businesses, I would say algebra is the most complex math you'll need to use, most of the time. But if you want to build complex software for grading financial options or something like that, you might need calculus.

First of all calculus which is taught in all high schools is not advanced math.

I do not think that the techniques that you would learn in calculus would help you to start a business. I would study economics instead.

The answer to your question will depend to some extent on what business you enter.

Most business men have little if any need for calculus...an occasional problem regarding maximizing profits may need some understanding of calculus...but that would be unusual. Trigonometry will rarely be useful in general business. However, the logic of mathematics, in general, will be helpful in understanding business math, e.g. probability, statistics and accounting.
