How to solve 2+5×10

It's a brain teaser we are debating. If no parentheses are present how would it be solved

2 + 5 x 10 = ?

 

Do the multiplication first, then the addition.

 

2 + 5 x 10 = 2 + (5 x 10) = 2 + 50 = 52

PEMDAS -- parentheses, exponents, multiplication, division, addition, subtraction

This is the conventional order of operations...there is, to my knowledge, no specific logical reason why this is so; it is just that this is the conventional order.
