I have two coordinates to make a line (0, 8.09) and (16.72, 19.28), giving me a line slope of 0.317. I need to know the y value on the line at x=5. Can someone help me understand how to get this?

I calculated the slope as (19.28 - 8.09)/(16.72 - 0) 

 

 = .669

 

You need the equation of line. Use the point slope formula.

 

y - y₁ =m(x -x₁)

 

y-8.09 = .669(x - 0)

 

y - 8.09 = .669x

 

y = .669x + 8.09

 

Now plug in x=5

 

y = .669(5) + 8.09

 

y= 11.435
