Roger scored 1800 points in four rounds of a debate competition. His opponent, Sawyer, scored 324 points in round 1, 530 points in round 2, and 619 points in round 3. How many points must Sawyer score in the final round to beat Roger?

Roger:

1800 in 4 rounds

 

Sawyer:

324 in 1

520 in 2

619 in 3

Adding all the points give 1463 points in 3 rounds

 

Lets say the points needed for roger to win is x.

Therefore, 1463 + x must add up to more points than 1800 points

 

1463 + x > 1800

subtract 1463 from both sides gives..

x > 1800 - 1463 

x > 337.

Therefore, Sawyer must score more than 337 points.
