I would start by converting to mixed numbers and then finding a common denominator:
11/2 and 22/3 which can be written 33/6 and 44/6
the total distance needed will be (33/6) x 2 = 66/6
to find the distance still needed you will subtract the distance traveled from the total:
(66/6) - (44/6) = 22/6
now you can simplify:
22/6 = 11/3 = 3 and 2/3 miles
