What is diameter 5 1/4 of circumference

(math help) the question says       diameter=5 1/4 and you do the # * 22/7 is the equation but I dont get it because you are finding circumference with the diameter

The definition of pi:
       π = C/d          [the Circumference of a circle divided by the diameter of the circle]
So,
      C = πd

22/7 = 3.142857143   [22/7 is a good estimate and is a time-saver with "magic numbers"]
 
Many problems (on homework or standardized tests) use "magic numbers" so that the calculations are easy.  For example, a 7-inch diameter drain pipe is 22 inches around.
