Sam cycles x km in 3 hours. If he maintains the same uniform speed, how far can he cycle in 12y minutes?
(Note my editing of the question.)
Sam travels at x/3 km/hour. 12y minutes is y/5 hours since 12 goes into 60 5 times, i.e. 12 min is 1/5 hour.
Distance then is rate times time: D = (x/3)(y/5) = xy/15 miles.
