It equates to dividing the current term by 3 to get the next term.  So,

As Mark M stated, this has a geometric ratio of 1/3

 

81 = 3⁴

27 = 3³

9 = 3²

3 = 3¹

 

The next term is 3⁰ = 1

Followed by 3^-1 = 1/3
