          x = -22/9              x = 50/9

UNLESS you mistyped the original problem and it should be:

 

|(7-9x)/2| = 18

 

Then:

 

(7-9x)/2 = 18    or    (7-9x)/2 = -18

7-9x = 36                  7-9x = -36

-9x = 29                    -9x = -43

 x = -29/9                   x = 43/9
