Hi Tia,
Starting with a+1>-3 you can subtract 1 from each side of the equation to get a>-4 (a is greater than -4). Now to graph this find -4 on your number line, since this reads "a is greater than -4" you make an open circle because -4 is not included and shade to the right of -4.
1/2 a<2
Multiply both sides by 2, this will give you a<4 (a is less than 4)
Now make an open at 4 and shade to the left for numbers that are lower than 4
a/2 <-2
Again multiply each side by 2, to get a<-4
Make an open circle at -4 and shade to the left for numbers smaller than -4
-2a<-8
For this one you need to divide each side by -2, remembered when you do this the greater than or less than sign flips directions. It will become a>4.
Now make an open circle at 4 and shade to the right because it includes numbers that are larger than 4.
