Why is there a difference in these percentage calculations?

Employers way -- $5920 X .9 = $5328 X .6 = $3196.8
My way -- $5920 X .55 = $3256

I have a %60 split with %10 taken off the top in which we split in half, so basically I lose %5 of that. So these calculations should be exactly the same but they're not, I have done this with lower percentages and I always calculated correctly. This is racking my brain, please help!

Thanks Mark.  So the way he calculates means I'm losing .01%?

I had the same set up with him prior to this just 10% less and both of the calculations worked out the same for every one of them.  I don't understand why it changes with a higher percentage.

Welcome David
With the greater percentages the difference is more obvious.
