Dear Niya,
This is a visual type problem. You will understand it the most if you graph it by hand or enter it into the graphing calculator to graph. It is also very interesting if you press the 2nd Graph button. Here you will be able to see what happens to the second line's Y value as you change the X value. The line has been moved up vertically. You have to add 4 units to the previous line's Y values to get the y values of the translated one.
As for the absolute value one, y=lxl, this v shaped object is also moved up 4 units. Every value of the translated graph is moved up 4 units.
