the tigers lost to the dragons in the last inning of the game. Use these clues to find the final score for each team. The sum of the score is 24. Both scores are even numbers. The difference between the two scores is 6. What is the final score for each team?

There is no possible solution if both scores have to be even numbers. If you drop that constraint, then this is a system of two linear equations:

 

T + D = 24

D - T = 6

 

The solution is T = 9, D = 15. That means the tigers scored 9, and the dragons scored 15. (Both scores are odd numbers.)
