I solved this one based on how I would figure it out for my staff in the retail industry.
We need to figure out how much Julie needs to sell to earn $200 per month. That would make the salary of $1800 equal the salary plus commission.
$200 is 4 percent of what she sells.
I made it into a simple formula:
4/100 (4 percent is 4 over 100) = 200/x
4x = 20,000
x = 5,000
This can be double-checked by multiplying 5000 by .04 (4 percent is also .04). The answer is $200.
