About Betsy:

I have been a dedicated and successful teacher of English Language Learning (ELL) and Adult Basic Education (ABE) for twenty-one years. In the course of my career, I have developed and adapted curricula for immigrants and adult students. In teaching, I have created a classroom environment which encourages confidence and the willingness to take appropriate risks. Among my accomplishments is the writing of curricula leading students to perform successfully on standardized tests. In addition to English language, I have taught American history and civics. I earned a Bachelors degree at New York University, and as a graduate student in a doctoral program there I was a teaching assistant for two years in the Department of Communication Arts and Sciences. I earned a Masters degree at the Teachers College at Columbia University. After teaching social studies at a secondary school in the New York City area for one year, I moved to Minneapolis where I have been teaching for twenty-one years in the Minneapolis Public School system. Upon retiring from the school system, I want to continue teaching high school and adult students on a one-to-one basis. I believe that I can continue to help students to succeed at the secondary and adult level as I have done in the past.
