About Ruth

I have been tutoring students since college and teaching high school and undergraduate students for over 20 years. I really enjoy one-on-one tutoring students, as you can make a real connection with an individual student and help them be successful in the goal they are trying to attain. I am the mom of 15 year old twins and I see how some of their friends struggle with fairly basic classes. I am fortunate that my daughters are straight 'A' students so far but they work at it. I have stressed to my daughters the importance of having a study plan for each course they have. This consists of more than 'just studying.' I look forward to the challenge of working with students to develop their own successful study plan, especially when so often they have so many extracurricular activities also on their plates.

Sometimes I feel a student can get 'swallowed up' in a classroom setting. A student may not grasp a certain basic concept and before you know it the student is struggling just to stay afloat in the class. That is where a great tutor can come in and really be the student's 'life-line' - assist them in 'catching up'; provide tips on how to stay current; and finally to excel in their subject matter! I would love to be your lifeline!!

I am both a registered nurse and a podiatrist and I love incorporating my clinical background into the basic sciences such as Anatomy and Physiology. Many times students feel that A&P can be so dry and 'boring.' I try to bring real life scenarios into the context so students see the relevance of learning this material. I also teach RN-NCLEX review classes for a major corporation so I am well versed in nursing curriculum as well as Pharmacology. I am one of the few tutors that will work with you to improve/increase your HESI or TEAS score.

I have a very flexible schedule as I have my own private practice as well as teach online (sampling of some of those classes: Pharmacology/Anatomy and Physiology/Medical Terminology/Pathophysiology.) I can tutor online or at a place of your preference. I commute all over the Twin Cities so location is not a concern either. One of the reasons I would love for you to contact me to learn more about tutoring is that biology doesn't have to be boring - it can be so interesting, fascinating and rewarding! Let me show you how!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Pharmacology

I have taught pharmacology at three various universities in their nursing curriculum numerous times. I teach a pharmacology section every time I teach the RN-NCLEX review class to nursing students. I had pharmacology classes in both my undergraduate curriculum as a RN as well as a graduate level pharmacology class in my doctoral studies.

I only met with Ruth 4 times and yet she still made a difference. She patiently went through questions with me and was able to relate to what I was going through. It's because of her that I passed!
