I have been helping native speakers of Spanish, Italian, and Korean improve their English comprehension and production skills since I began tutoring one of my Spanish professors (a native of Colombia) in 1999. I recently participated in volunteer training at the public library and will be tutoring ESL students there. Having learned two foreign languages myself and having taught German at the university level for eight years, I understand very well the difficulties and rewards inherent in acquiring a new language as an adult.

In 1996, my high school German teacher recommended me as a tutor for a younger student who was struggling in second-year German. After helping him raise his grade in the class from an F to a B, I was hooked on tutoring and have been helping students and community members improve their German ever since. I have a doctorate in Modern German Literature and Culture from Indiana University. I have lived, studied, and taught in Germany and Austria several times. Since 2001, I have been teaching German language, literature, and culture classes at the university level, but I still enjoy working with private pupils whenever I can. Whether you wish to start learning German for fun, need help with a class, or want to brush up on the German you learned years ago, I would be happy to assist you.

I have been teaching at the college level since 2001, but I have also had extensive experience babysitting as well as tutoring children. While I have primarily tutored children in foreign languages, I am well versed in children's books and have always excelled at math and science as well. I recently passed a background check with District 11, and I tutor math and ESL for the Pikes Peak Library District.

Keeps me calm

Rachel has taught me a lot about the German language works. I was really stressed out about the class because everything was in German. She has patiently gone over what is important in each chapter and what is important to focus on. I went from thinking I'm going to fail the class to really enjoying it and looking forward to practicing with both her and my classmates. She is perfectly fluent and I highly recommend her!

Knowledgeable and patient

My son has completed 2yrs of German and needed support. Rachel has been very helpful and is providing great support. He is more confident and is not going to withdraw from the course as he is becoming more confident with her tutoring.

Very Pleased

Rachel has my child feeling a lot more confident in her German abilities. After having to teach herself German last year online with little to no help from the teacher, my child felt lost and as if she didn't learn anything. Rachel, after one session, had my child realizing that she did learn last year and will do well in German 2 polishing up on the foundations. Very pleased.

Excellent tutor

Rachel is a great German teacher. She understands the needs of the language learner. She has developed exercises in the areas of German grammar. She is able to systematically assess your level and tailor the teaching to the areas that need improvement. I have recently started with her and have greatly enjoyed our lessons so far.
