Hi! I’m Kacey, and I have a Master of Education (M.Ed.) from the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities, where I graduated with high distinction. I’m based in Minnesota and have taught in the Anoka-Hennepin School District for three years, including two years in first grade and one year in kindergarten. Most of my experience is in early literacy, especially helping students with reading, writing, and phonics.
In my classroom experience, I worked with students across a wide range of learning needs and ability levels. This included students who needed extra support with attention, learning differences, or special education services, as well as students who were performing above grade level and needed additional challenge. I’ve learned how to adjust instruction so each child can access the material in a way that works for them and feel successful.
Along with classroom teaching, I’ve been tutoring for the past few years. I’ve worked with students from preschool through early middle school, mostly focusing on reading skills, comprehension, and writing. During my master’s program, I also taught STEM robotics and coding to elementary students, which gave me a lot of practice making learning hands-on and engaging.
One thing I’m really passionate about is connecting learning to a child’s interests. When students are engaged in something they enjoy, they tend to participate more and build stronger understanding. I use what students are interested in to help make reading and writing more meaningful and easier to connect with, while still focusing on the skills they need to grow.
I’m a mom to a young toddler, so I understand how important it is for kids to feel comfortable and supported when they’re learning. I try to keep tutoring sessions calm, encouraging, and tailored to each child so they can build confidence along with their skills.
