University of Minnesota
I have tutored math and science since college. For 4 years, my part time job in college was a teaching assistant at University of Minnesota in General College's Math Center. Also, I worked in Math Special Projects and the Astronomy department as a teaching assistant. After graduation, I was employed as a teacher at Sylvan Learning Center. This was a great opportunity until I decided to start my own tutor business. Tutoring has been my part time business for 10 years.
My philosophy is all children can learn math. Most students think math is hard and just don't try. Math can be challenging, but most students after a little encouragement are successful. My role as a tutor is to demonstrate different approaches to problems and praise the student to success.
I have helped students in advanced math and science classes ranging from algebra, statistics, and calculus to AP physics and chemistry. However, many of my students have struggled in basic math. If a student is willing to accept my help, the student improves. I am proud that often I help one student in a family, and I am asked a year or two later to come help a younger sibling. My greatest reward is seeing a student go from hating math to understanding difficult concepts.
I look forward to helping your student. Thank you! I have tutored math and science since college. I offer a discount of $10 off per hour if we meet at the Ridgedale Library for the sessions. Test prep (ACT/SAT) rate is $80/hour.
Drea is amazing! My usual tutor cancelled the day of our session, and I really needed a tutor because I had an exam the next day. I contacted Drea only a couple hours in advance, and she was willing to meet with me that night! She is really good at explaining concepts. She encouraged me and told me when I did things right. She gave me confidence for my exam the next day. I highly recommend Drea, and I will definitely contact her again in the future.
Drea helped my son with AP stats and proofreading an essay. My son is very pleased with the help Drea is giving and will use her in the future.
My daughter is a 16 year old sophomore who is having problems in math. After their first session my daughter wanted to see Drea again and was very happy with how they worked together. They worked on upcoming homework as a bonus!
Drea continues to do a fantastic job working with our daughter on current concepts. She's patient, clear, and very knowledgeable. We really appreciate her flexibility as well. Thank you, Drea!
Drea has worked with my son on geometry and pre-calc. She is patient and has helped my son develop more confidence and identify areas where he needs to focus his time.
We have been working with Drea for a couple months and have been impressed with the change in our son's understanding and testing of Precalculus. Our son also enjoys working with Drea and finds her tutoring to be easy to understand. She's also been great in flexibility with scheduling.
Really good with going through practice problems. Does lots of reading beforehand so she's always prepared for our sessions. I think she's read more of my textbook than I have.
Drea helped our daughter to greatly improve her most recent calculus test score from 47% to nearly 90%. She was patient and was able to convey the material in a way her teacher could not.
Drea was great! She really helped me to understand the content more deeply than I had previously, giving me the ability to have a better understanding of what I was accomplishing through the equations and operations I was using. I would highly recommend her to anyone, as she was a very good teacher as well as a very personable, kind and patient person!
Very positive, focused but not overwhelming, open-minded & "go with the flow" all describe our session today. She (Drea) really seemed to help my daughter grasp concepts she just wasn't getting before. We hope to continue to work with her.
My daughter found Drea helpful in concepts for Calculus AB and Drea went out of her way to fight us into a very tight Saturday schedule where she was booked back to back until 2:30pm appointments all over the Twin Cities
My daughter loved Drea and said she learned SOOOO much! We will continue on a weekly tutoring schedule and she is going into her test tomorrow confident!
Drea was very accommodating and met my daughter for her college Chemistry. She is patient and was able to start explaining things right away. There was no "ramp up". Well worth the investment!
My daughter was impressed with her command of the subject. She felt that Drea could help her with test preparation.
My son ended the lesson with a great sense of feeling he had a grasp on the statistic concepts. Drea was very helpful and communicated well with my son.
She helped my achieve an A on the final exam in college chemistry; she was very flexible and helped me in an urgent situation when another tutor did not work out.
She is an excellent tutor. We went over stats concepts including z-tests, t-tests - she made the problems straight-forward and understandable. I will be meeting with her again! Thanks, Drea.
Drea has tutored College Algebra, She has done a fabulous job! Knowledgeable, patient, and so helpful. Thank you very much for your help and guidance.
Drea is very knowledgeable about Chemistry and Organic Chemistry. Drea helped me stay focused to prepare for the exams which I did great on. I highly recommend Drea!
College Algebra - very helpful. Was flexible, showed up on time and let me lead the tutoring session. Would use her again.
Drea has taken the time to explain to me why algebra problems need to be done a certain way. She is extremely patient with me as I work through the equations. She has given me homework to do before our tutoring sessions so we are making the most of our time. Drea even went to the library to find additional Algebra resources to ensure that I was getting a variety of problems to work on before my exam.
Drea was a huge help to my daughter. She helped my daughter to achieve most improved in class. Thanks again Drea!
Drea has been wonderful for my 9th grade son, helping him in both geometry and physics. We started with her when I noticed my son's usual B+ math grade had slipped to C, he just wasn't understanding the material as taught by his private school teacher. Immediately after starting 2x a week, his grade is at 89%, almost A-! Since physics is so much math, she's been helping him with that as well, coming extra last minute hours here and there for tests, and working around our last minute schedule changes. We couldn't be happier and Intend/hope to have her next year too!
Drea made our 9th grader feel very comfortable with the subject matter in their first session. Look forward to future successful sessions!
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have taken a graduate level biostatistics class in the school of public health at the University of Minnesota.
The course covered z-scores, t-tests, hypothesis testing, confidence intervals, and chi tests. Other topics covered were normal distribution, taking a sample of a population, probability of unison and intersections events, and conditional probability.
I have a minor in math with 3 years of calculus courses. The classes covered limits, derivatives, integrals, differential equations, and sequence/series. I have tutored high school and college students in calculus courses. My students have needed help with both single variable and multi-variable calculus classes.
Most students need help understanding the different rules (chain rule, product rule, quotient rule) and the relationship between limits, derivatives, and integrals.
I have a minor in chemistry and have been tutoring for 10 years. Most years, I have one to three students who need help in chemistry.
I have a minor in mathematics. I took two years of calculus both single and multivariable. I also completed an additional year of math higher level math. I have helped students at all levels of math.
I took a year of organic chemistry for my minor in chemistry. There were three courses plus three lab courses. Topics covered were naming molecules, creating reactions, stereochemistry, synthesis and reaction with of alkenes, alkynes, alcohols, and ethers. We also covered topics in biochemistry (proteins, lipids, carbohydrates and nucleus acids).
I have tutored several students in high school and college level chemistry courses. Most had a chapter on organic chemistry.
