About Drea

Bio

I have tutored math and science since college. For 4 years, my part time job in college was a teaching assistant at University of Minnesota in General College's Math Center. Also, I worked in Math Special Projects and the Astronomy department as a teaching assistant. After graduation, I was employed as a teacher at Sylvan Learning Center. This was a great opportunity until I decided to start my own tutor business. Tutoring has been my part time business for 10 years.

My philosophy is all children can learn math. Most students think math is hard and just don't try. Math can be challenging, but most students after a little encouragement are successful. My role as a tutor is to demonstrate different approaches to problems and praise the student to success.

I have helped students in advanced math and science classes ranging from algebra, statistics, and calculus to AP physics and chemistry. However, many of my students have struggled in basic math. If a student is willing to accept my help, the student improves. I am proud that often I help one student in a family, and I am asked a year or two later to come help a younger sibling. My greatest reward is seeing a student go from hating math to understanding difficult concepts.

I look forward to helping your student. Thank you!

Calculus,

Calculus

I have a minor in math with 3 years of calculus courses. The classes covered limits, derivatives, integrals, differential equations, and sequence/series. I have tutored high school and college students in calculus courses. My students have needed help with both single variable and multi-variable calculus classes. Most students need help understanding the different rules (chain rule, product rule, quotient rule) and the relationship between limits, derivatives, and integrals.

Biostatistics,

Biostatistics

I have taken a graduate level biostatistics class in the school of public health at the University of Minnesota. The course covered z-scores, t-tests, hypothesis testing, confidence intervals, and chi tests. Other topics covered were normal distribution, taking a sample of a population, probability of unison and intersections events, and conditional probability.

Friendly and laid back, knowledgeable and patient tutor

It's important to remind our kids that tutoring isn't a bad thing. Sometimes, I think it gets a bad reputation, but really, even A and B students benefit from tutoring. Hearing something taught from a different perspective can really help a student get over any 'humps' they might be having in a particular section or lesson from any number of subjects. Drea has helped my kids do just that. She's a great asset to have in our educational toolbox.

Confidence in STEM Courses

Drea continues to assist my sophomore daughter in learning Algebra 2 and Chemistry. My daughter missed important curriculum at the beginning of the semester due to absences and has struggled with comprehension and testing. After a few weeks, Drea has helped my daughter get back on track. My daughter took her first test since the tutoring began and she earned an A-. Overall Drea stays on task, is kind, thorough and has enhanced my daughter's confidence in all her STEM courses.

knowledgeable and easy to work with

Drea helped me review for my semester exam. I showed up with many questions - she answered all of them, helped me see where I was going astray and offered several helpful suggestions for things to watch for during the exam.
